The Naked Mole Rats of Pangani: A Short Video

Here is a brief look at the naked mole rats that you can find on the Pangani Forest Trail. This is the research station. The scientists decided to build the station on the slope of a hill. They discovered this mole rat colony and the scientists have used their good fortune to study this colony.

So what's so special about naked mole rats? No, its not the nudity, it's the fact they are very much like insects. Their society mirrors that of termites. There is a queen and workers (who are sterile) as well as a few breeding males. When the queen dies, a female worker then becomes the queen.

To say these guys are fascinating is an understatement.
