Kangaroos at the Tree

With the recent refurbishment, the red kangaroos were absent from the front of the Tree of Life. But a few months ago, they returned.  I am throwing out a couple of recent quick videos of them,

The red species of kangaroo are the largest. They are therefore, the largest mammals found in Australia. They are very common in the grass and scrub lands of the western and central areas of that continent.

They are not endangered. However, there is a kangaroo harvesting industry in Australia, which due to the animals incredible popularity is somewhat controversial

Disney's Animal Kingdom News for April 19, 2017:

A New Pandora Video: Disney continues its full court press of social media advertising for the upcoming land at the park. This time the video is about the plants and animals of the land. As you can see from the video here, the focus is really on plants, even ones that interact with guests.

Disney's Animal Kingdom News for April 12, 2017: Pre Order Your Bluefood

Mobile Ordering: Pretty soon you will be able to order from 15 counter service restaurants using your My Disney Experience app. You will be able to order from the menu and pay all through the app. Once you are at the eatery, you will hit the "I'm Here" icon and you will be notified when you can pick up your items. The new Avatar themed Sa'tuli Canteen is a restaurant on the list as is Flame Tree BBQ, Pizzafari, and Restaurantosaurus. We know this will be ready by Memorial Day when the Sa'tuli will begin operating, but the start dates for the currently operating places is not determined.

Look Behind the Tree: We love the Tree of Life Awakenings show, and apparently so does everybody else. Until now, the show itself has been visible only from the "front" of the park icon. That is, the projections were displayed on the park entrance side. Soon, however, it appears there will be projections behind the Tree, as well, being visible from the path between Africa and Asia. No start date has been announced.

Na'vi Translators: So apparently the Na'vi don't have a written language. In order to help guests learn the language, the park will offer translators and card packs for purchase to help you learn the language of the natives of Pandora. You will able to purchase all of this in Windtraders, the merch spot.

Missing Tree: The tall tree outside of Flame Tree BBQ across from the entrance to It's Tough to Be a Bug has been removed. In its place is a tiny little palm tree.

Disney's Animal Kingdom News for April 5, 2017: Party time

Rivers of Light nightly: Beginning this week, Rivers of Light begins a new schedule. That is, starting on April 9, the show will no longer be shown just 4 nights a week. Instead, it will become a daily event. This will be true at least through the summer, and likely well beyond. It does not rule out the possibility of the show cutting down performances during slow times of the year (such as September) but with Avatar set to open in 6 weeks or so, it seems likely Rivers of Light will remain daily for the foreseeable future.

Party for the Planet: I know we talk about our love for these special single day events but the park has another coming up to celebrate the launch of the new DisneyNature movie "Born in China." Of course, April 22 is Earth Day. The day before will be the Party for the Planet at the park.  Activities centering around 2 of the stars of the movie, the snow leopard and the giant panda, will be found at the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Also, a portion of the ticket sales for the day will go to the World Wildlife Fund.

Not your typical Brazilian Tourist: At certain times of the year, the parks are filled with large tour groups from Brazil. Well, Disney is encouraging a different kind of Brazilian resident. Purple martins, a migratory bird, have some new homes near the parking lot at the park. Purple martins migrate from the amazon rain forest to Florida, and these new bird houses will hopefully encourage more of the birds to stay in the area. There have been other such birdhouses in the resort for about a decade.

Park Hours for this week are....

Sunday  April 8 9 am- 9:30 pm

Photo of the Day: Oasis charm

Many people just sort of skip by the Oasis. So I decided to throw this picture out there as a reminder of just how charming and pretty this place can be.
